Apple smokes crack, prices Mac Mini

While there is nothing particularly funny about drug abuse, the pricing on the new Mac mini is hilarious:

Unibody Mac mini

– 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
– SuperDrive 8x (DVD±RDL/DVD±RW
– 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2x2GB
– 320GB Serial ATA Drive
– Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
– no keyboard or mouse
– AppleCare Protection Plan

NZ $1,818.00 inc GST

Let’s just put that into perspective:

iMac 21.5 inch

– 3.06GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
– 8x double-layer SuperDrive
– 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM – 2x2GB
– 500GB Serial ATA Drive
– Apple Wireless Keyboard
– Apple Magic Mouse
– Apple Remote
– AppleCare Protection Plan

NZ$ 2,337.01 inc GST

I believe there was a time when the Mac mini was the “affordable” way to be granted entrance to Apple’s walled garden – looks now like that’s just a distant memory. Anyone out there care to let me know what they think what market Apple are going for with the new mini leave a comment…
